As shocking as it may sound to you, all of us are biased to some level. Common biases exist against people based on their religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Apart from this, some of us are prejudiced towards different political sides, exposed to making harsh judgments dependent on whether someone recognizes us as Democratic or Republican.   

At Rising Counseling Services, we believe that every voice matters. We are dedicated to creating, maintaining, and supporting a bosom, affinitive, and inclusive culture where authentic change and healing can occur. We are committed to offering services that stimulate equity and inclusion for our clients and counselors.

Bias

Bias is a feeling, partiality, preference, or inclination towards or against a person, group, idea, or belief. Biases are usually bigoted or prejudicial and are often based on stereotypes rather than experience or knowledge. Bias can occur at any time in an individual’s life.       

The most common biases are based on characteristics such as:

• Race

• Ethnicity

• Gender

• Religion

• Sexual orientation

• Socioeconomic background

• Educational background

It is difficult to be completely unbiased. It is human nature to judge based on first impressions and anticipatory ideas. But by being aware of these judgments and biases, people can avoid the harmful stereotyping and discriminatory practices that often result from biases.
